# Why can't I cancel pending or partially filled auction orders?

> You cannot cancel pending or partially filled orders after the auction session ends. The exchange automatically cancels them at around 4:45 PM.

## Short answer

You cannot cancel pending or partially filled orders after the auction session ends. The exchange automatically cancels them at around 4:45 PM.

If you participate in the auction and your order is pending or partially filled, you cannot sell those shares in the normal market for the day.

Exchanges do not allow you to modify orders during the auction. You must first cancel the order and place a new order with the updated price and quantity.
