Short answer
As per RBI regulations, non-individual accounts such as corporate and Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) accounts are restricted from purchasing Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGB). As a result, CDSL has frozen the credit of SGBs to these accounts. This restriction applies only to the purchase of SGBs. However, you can sell SGBs from these accounts without any limitations.
A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) cannot invest in SGBs. Individual investors who later change their residential status from resident to non-resident may continue to hold SGB till early redemption or maturity.
